In Africa, corruption dirties the water

NAIROBI 14 March 2013 (IRIN) - Collusion among government officials, unscrupulous water vendors and large farm owners results in diverted water supply lines, misappropriated funds, and failure to implement laws on protecting water sources from encroachment and pollution. These are just some of the ways corruption is denying millions of poor people in Africa access to safe and clean drinking water, experts say.

How Much Will Sea Level Rise?

There are two main reasons why sea level is rising as the world gets warmer. First, as ice sheets and glaciers melt, they send ice and water pouring into the oceans. But another reason is that water, like most substances, expands as it heats up — and as greenhouse gases warm the atmosphere, some of that heat is slowly warming the oceans as well. Scientists understand the expansion of water really well; you can look it up in a textbook. It is much harder to predict what will happen to the ice, though.

Global Water Experiment (International year of Chemistry)

The theme for the global experiment project “Water: A Chemical Solution” implies the dual meaning of “solution.” First, solutions are the answers that chemistry can provide to questions about delivering safe water to people all over the world. Second, in the chemical sense, the term is helpful for introducing important chemical principles such as pH, salinity, and solubility. In the global experiment, teachers will involve classes of students in the investigation.

Saving Heroes

Nowadays we face lots of effects of climate change, e.g. desertification and melting of the polar ice. We have to be careful with our natural resources. The characters in this animated video become heroes by saving water.

This video is part of Pet Pals TV series, developed as part of the H2Ooooh! Water project by Gruppo Alcuni in collaboration with UNESCO and RAI Fiction.

Tracing the Journey of a Drinking Water Drop -4

The Water Pirates (Hurting Salmon)

The Water Pirates is the first of many videos that explain why it is critical to defeat the water bond that will be on Californias November ballot. The $11 billion dollar measure is a pork-filled, naked power grab that will enrich a small group of wealthy powerful interests at the expense of an already bankrupt California - and thats just for starters. If it passes, it will kill The Delta and be the end for the biggest and most important estuary in North and South America, San Francisco Bay. Stop the water pirates!

The Forgotten Cycle

The video tells the story of mismanagement of the water cycle in a blue planet sustained by water. Problems of over-use, pollution and leakage of water are highlighted.
